The Story of Your Real Christmas Tree

Discover the inspiring journey of our trees, from the years spent growing and caring for them to the moment they arrive at your home each Christmas season.

Our Life Cycle

The life cycle of a real Christmas tree begins with seed germination, which usually takes place in the spring. The young seedlings then grow for several years in nurseries, where they receive specific care such as watering and fertilization to support healthy development.

Once they reach the appropriate size, they are typically transplanted into open fields, where they continue growing for 7 to 10 years. During this time, the trees are carefully maintained and monitored to help protect them from pests and disease.

In the fall, when they are ready for harvest, they are carefully cut and selected. They are then transported to stores and markets, where families choose them to decorate their homes during the Christmas season.

After the holidays, many Christmas trees are recycled into mulch or repurposed as wood, completing a cycle that begins with the planting of a seed and ends as part of a family Christmas tradition.

Spring (March–June):
  • Active Growth: With increased sunlight and warmer temperatures, the trees enter their fastest growth phase, focusing on gaining height and developing fuller foliage.

  • Soil Care and Fertilization: During this season, growers apply fertilizer to support healthy tree development. Pest control is also essential to protect young trees.

  • Formative Pruning: Branches that grow out of place are trimmed to help the trees develop a balanced, symmetrical, cone-shaped form—the classic shape of a Christmas tree.

Summer (June–September):
  • Maturation and Strengthening: During the summer, the trees continue to grow, although at a slower pace. Growers continue monitoring for pests and diseases and make sure the trees receive adequate watering, especially during the hottest months.

  • Inspection and Selection: Toward the end of summer, growers begin evaluating which trees will be ready for that year’s Christmas season. The best specimens are tagged for harvest in the fall.

  • Tree Harvesting: In the fall, mainly between October and November, the selected trees are carefully cut. Growers harvest trees that have reached the appropriate size, generally between 1.5 and 2.5 meters in height.

  • Transportation and Distribution: After cutting, the trees are wrapped in netting to protect their branches and make transportation easier. They are then sent to sales locations or, in some cases, delivered directly to customers.

Fall (September–December):
  • Sales and Decorating: During December, the trees are sold at nurseries, markets, and specialty stores. Once they arrive in their new homes, they are decorated for Christmas celebrations.

  • Care at Home: The trees are kept fresh with regular watering, helping them stay green and preventing them from drying out too quickly.

  • Disposal or Recycling (January): At the end of the Christmas season, many families take their trees to recycling or composting centers, where they are turned into mulch or compost.

Winter (December–March):
