The Matlatzinca people once occupied a vast territory during pre-Hispanic times. Today, their population has declined significantly, with approximately 1,500 Matlatzinca people living throughout Mexico. Most are now located in San Francisco Oxtotilpan, in the municipality of Temascaltepec, State of Mexico.

One of the challenges the community has faced is communication, as many members continue to preserve their native language, while younger generations are increasingly leaving it behind.

In 1998, seeking a quieter and healthier life away from the fast pace and pollution of Mexico City, our founder, Mr. Leonardo Josafat Reyes López, decided to move his family to the municipality of Temascaltitlán.

That decision led to the creation of Rancho San Pancho, founded with a clear purpose: to protect and contribute to the environment through the planting, cultivation, and care of different tree species, while creating employment opportunities for people from the local community.

At Rancho San Pancho, we are committed to protecting and improving the environment. We work to support groundwater recharge, purify the air through Christmas tree plantations on previously eroded land, and help create a natural climate-regulating effect in the Valley of Mexico.
